Oven Cooked Cube Steak

Ingredients
  

  • 1-2 lbs cube steak
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • salt, to taste
  • pepper, to taste
  • 2 tsp minced onion
  • optional: beef or mushroom gravy
  • optional: rice or mashed potatoes

Instructions
 

  • Season the cube steaks on both sides with salt, pepper, and minced onion. Let steaks sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes prior to cooking. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 325 degrees and a skillet with oil over medium-high heat.
  • Sear the cube steaks on each side for 1-2 minutes until browned. You may need to work in batches if cooking several at a time, making sure steaks don’t touch.
  • Place steaks in a baking dish and cover with aluminum foil. Transfer the dish to the middle oven rack and cook for 30-45 minutes until a meat thermometer reads 120 degrees for medium rare.
  • Let rest at room temperature for 5-10 minutes. If desired, place cube steaks atop rice or mashed potatoes, and drizzle beef or mushroom gravy over the top just before serving.
