Ingredients

  • 4 cube steaks
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional for spice lovers)
  • salt, to taste
  • pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 cup barbeque sauce
  • 4 crusty baguettes or rolls
  • optional toppings: sliced cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, mix the garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and pepper. Sprinkle this seasoning mixture evenly over both sides of the cube steaks. If you prefer a meat mixture, use ground beef instead of cubes.
  • Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned cube steaks, flip, and cook for 3-4 minutes per side or until they reach your desired level of doneness.
  • Pour the BBQ sauce over the cooked cube steaks in a skillet. Reduce the heat to low and let the steaks simmer in the sauce for 2-3 minutes.
  • While the steaks cook in the pan, prepare your bread by slicing the baguettes or rolls. You can toast them if you want.
  • To assemble the sandwiches, place a cube steak on the bottom half of each baguette or roll. Add your toppings, then top with the other half of the bread.
  • Serve the cube steak sandwiches immediately and dig in!

Notes

  • Feel free to adjust the seasonings according to your taste preferences. Liberally or sparingly sprinkle with seasoning salt or add more or less spice, depending on your desired heat level.
  • Experiment with different types of barbecue sauce and beef cuts to find your favorite flavor profile. Don’t worry, there's a sauce out there for every palate.
  • Watch your cube steaks carefully so they don’t overcook and remain tender and juicy.
