Steakhouse Overview
Al’s Restaurant is a St. Louis institution. Famous for eschewing printed menus (all dishes are listed and/or displayed tableside by the wait staff), it’s also one of the more polarizing restos in the city. For a certain segment of diners, Al’s – in business since 1925, with its last major reno nearly 50 years old – is a steakhouse long past its prime. Others indulge in the kitchen’s off-the-cuff cooking (customized apps and entrees aren’t just allowed, they’re practically encouraged) and insist that the wait staff – twenty-plus year veterans – are the finest in the business.
