Appearances can be deceiving. From the outside, Annie Gunn’s looks like a middle-of-the-road throwback to early-20th-centry chop shops. But on the inside, it’s so, so much more. Chef Lou Rook III is an obsessive ingredient sourcer, with meats brought in from a network of local farmers. Just about everything else on the menu carefully selected for maximum impact and flavor. At Annie Gunn’s, it isn’t just about the steaks – which, by the way, are fantastic and come both non-smoked and smoked (call ahead). Everything from the grilled shrimp, to the tomato salad, to the classic apple pie is downright delicious, downright indulgent, and downright American.
